Chinese Ice Dancers Under Investigation After Displaying Toy Missile during Event

ISU officials have launched an investigation after two Chinese ice dancers were seen holding what looked like a toy ballistic missile during a grand prix figure skating event.

Broadcast video captured the skaters sitting with a large toy in the form of a missile marked “DF-61” while waiting for the judges' results in the “kiss and cry” area during the event.

This model is a recently introduced Chinese-made ground-launched intercontinental ballistic missile designed for carrying nuclear weapons, that had been unveiled during a national ceremony recently.

Officials is aware of an unsuitable soft toy seems to have been one of the objects thrown on to the rink by audience members after a routine at the ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix Cup of China event,” the ISU stated via a release.

The item was then handled by the skaters who had just performed. The ISU apologizes for the incident and will investigate further.”

Ren and Xing placed in eighth place of 10 pairs in the ice dance event, with the victory going to Madison Chock and Evan Bates of the United States.
