Marvel's Wonder Man Preview Reveals The MCU's Most Meta Series Ever

The Marvel studio has heard that viewers could be experiencing some superhero fatigue, so they've decided to incorporate that very idea into their next superhero show.

That's right, the first preview for Wonder Man has arrived, and it pledges a meta twist on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The trailer, which debuted on October 10th, also quietly pushed the Wonder Man launch date back from its initial late 2025 slot into early 2026.

Why one more superhero film? People is weary of superhero content. Why go see them in the cinema? Wonder Man spoke to me on a deep level. There is an chance to shock audiences. To reinvent the whole category of narrative.

The reporter replies: "Have you considered about casting?"

The trailer then cuts to lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who's viewing the interview on his mobile device, and the trailer concludes.

What We Know About Wonder Man

We already knew that Wonder Man would be a self-referential interpretation on the MCU. The show stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a Hollywood actor who transforms into a super-powered being (the hero Wonder Man).

The supporting cast features actor Ben Kingsley returning as Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams (aka Grim Reaper), Ed Harris as Simon's manager Neal Saroyan, and Arian Moayed coming back as DODC officer P. Cleary.

The Studio's Self-Referential Comedy Strategy

We don't know much else about the storyline of Wonder Man, but it's evident that Marvel intends to poke some fun at itself.

In the aftermath of Deadpool & Wolverine, it appears like the production company is all in on self-referential comedy. Will that work without the celebrity appeal of its previous leads? Only time will tell.
